I was recently reading an
Episcopal Church publication called The Living Church. There was a
two-page spread with many quotes from Bishops and other individuals from the
United States and from the Worldwide Anglican Communion praising something
called The Bible Challenge edited by Marek P. Zabriskie. I was quite intrigued.
So after gathering some more information, I went online with Amazon.com and
ordered the book. It is an excellent resource.
I think this book is
something that many people here at Christ Church may have been looking for and
now it is available. The book is way to read the entire Bible in one year with
helpful comments, questions and prayers to supplement those same readings. I
think this book if it is used with one’s own Bible could be an excellent
personal daily devotional. It could also be used by small groups or by
organizations like the ECW, Daughters of the King or the Men’s Bible Study.
There may be some individuals who want to start a new Bible discussion group.
This book is a ready-made resource for them.
I seldom recommend that
the entire congregation purchase a specific resource product but this is an
exception. I believe everyone at Christ Church would benefit from using this
book to really delve into the Bible. As I mentioned earlier, The Bible
Challenge is available at Amazon online as a paperback and as a Kindle
book. The book may also be purchased directly from the publisher, Forward
Movement (www.forwardmovement.org).
The best pricing is as a Kindle electronic book. For those who are
uncomfortable ordering via the internet, I will arrange for a group purchase
through the Parish Office. If you choose to order this way please contact my
assistant, Maryam Whitaker at (941) 747-3709 or mwhitaker@christchurchswfla.org
for more information.
So
let’s all read the Bible in a year. It certainly cannot hurt and it may be a
great way of Christian growth!
